Leading US Law firm is hiring a Conflicts Attorney, which will be the first position of its type in the London office owing to the growth and level of work in the London office.  In this role the Conflicts Attorney will be a member of the Conflicts and New Business Intake Department, reporting to the Global Managing Director of Conflicts and New Business Intake. This Conflicts Attorney role is responsible for assisting the firm’s Office of General Counsel, Compliance Officer, Conflicts and New Business Intake Department with legal research, analysis, and Counsel on matters relating to conflicts of interest, ethics and professional responsibility issues, compliance, and other matters.

 

Conflicts Attorney responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, the following:

 

  • Knowledge of and familiarity with conflicts rules as well as other ethics and professional responsibilities rules and laws in the United Kingdom, United States, Europe, Asia and South America; • Working directly with attorneys and other stakeholders to resolve ethical and business conflicts and draft engagement and waiver terms, including scopes of engagement, specific and advance waivers, alternative fee arrangements and other terms; • Advising on ethical wall memoranda and working with stakeholders to ensure enforcement of same; • Working with non-attorney conflicts staff to identify, analyze and resolve ethical and business conflicts issues related to requests for proposals, new business intake, lateral transfers, thrust-upon conflicts, media checks, secondments and other matters; • Experience using intake and conflicts products to perform conflicts checks (experience with Intapp’s new business intake and conflicts modules is desired); • Performing legal research and analysis relating to conflicts or other matters pertaining to ethics and/or professional responsibility; • Draft and present memoranda and presentations on recent developments in conflicts law; • Reviewing and recommending revisions to outside counsel guidelines and other terms, and negotiating same.

 

Conflict Attorney desired criteria:

 

  • Advanced ability to organize, prioritize, coordinate, and work as part of a team and able to identify and escalate issues as appropriate and present them clearly and succinctly with proposed solutions; • Excellent legal research and writing skills with advanced proficiency in rules of English grammar, spelling and punctuation, with excellent attention to detail; • Experience using various databases such as Intapp’s suite of products; • Advanced proficiency in MS Word, and document editing/comparison applications, MS Outlook and web-based conference call/web-sharing applications; • Excellent written and oral communications required with strong ability meet deadlines and provide results while supporting and enforcing Firm policy and procedures and an ability to interact with people at all levels in a polite and constructive way; • Able to maintain strict confidentiality of the affairs of the Firm and its clients and be flexible and able to embrace shifting demands and tight deadlines.
  • Bachelor degree and admitted as a solicitor in England & Wales; • At least 2/3 years’ directly relevant experience at a mid-sized to large law firm (preferably multinational).
