A leading international law firm is seeking to hire an experienced Head of Legal Risk to join their Risk & Compliance team at their busy London office on a permanent basis.

 

The Head of Legal Risk will be responsible for the development and implementation of the firm’s risk and compliance strategy and leads the process of ensuring compliance with relevant legislation.  They will act as an ambassador for the firm’s risk and compliance culture and standards and advise the firm, Management Board, the partnership and Finance, IT and HR departments on risk issues affecting the business.

 

This is a full-time, permanent position offering a generous salary of up to £125,000 + fantastic benefits. The firm operates under a hybrid working model, with 3 days working in the office.

Responsibilities as Head of Legal Risk:

  • Responsible (with Risk & Compliance Partner) for formulating the strategy, vision and values of the Risk Compliance function.  This requires the embodiment of a global approach.
  • Deputises for the Risk & Compliance Partner and liaises with the firm’s SRA Relationship Manager when required.
  • Manages the Risk Legal Team and oversees implementation of policies and procedures by Risk & Compliance Officers.
  • Acts as lead counsel on all matters of risk, compliance and ethics – in particular in relation to numerous queries which arise daily regarding the SRA Code, professional standards and best practice, ethics, conduct, conflicts, scams, data protection, business continuity, contracts, and terms and conditions, both the firm’s and those of third parties; assisting the GC, PI Partner, MLRO and COLP and Business Service Heads as applicable.
  • Assists Risk & Compliance Partner, COLP/GC and PI partner in investigating and dealing with complaints and conduct issues, ensuring they are dealt with according to the firm’s policies.

Key Skills and Experience as Head of Legal Risk:

  • Experience of working within the legal sector essential – preferably in private practice.
  • Qualified lawyer, with 10 years’ + PQE.
  • Experience of advising at Board level.
  • Detailed knowledge of the SRA Handbook, especially the Code of Conduct.
