PR & Communications Manager

 

Our client, a leading US law firm and are now looking to recruit a PR & Communications Manager to work closely with the Director of Marketing, to focus on the delivery and promotion of the firms and key practices regional and global corporate activities including talent, diversity, pro bono, and innovation initiatives.

 

The PR & Communications Manager will liaise with people at all levels across the firm, as well as with clients, other external parties, marketing colleagues and PR agencies. The role is based in stunning offices close to St Pauls and City Thameslink. Salary is up to £75,000 depending on experience. The firm operate on 9.30-5.30 hours and offers agile working of 3 days in the office, 2 from home, however candidates must be willing to work overtime as business needs require.

 

 

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Acting as a day-to-day point of contact with the press
  • Writing press releases, pitches, articles and other communications materials for use with the media
  • Building and maintaining media contact lists on our media database
  • Monitoring editorial calendars of relevant publications and communicate/recommend opportunities to raise the visibility of the firm
  • Helping to identify and researching opportunities in the media to communicate the firm’s messaging in support of firm and practice strategies, including comment opportunities, bylined articles, case studies, background briefings and more
  • Actively generating and seeking story ideas and pitch to local and national legal, general business and trade press
  • Building relationships and engage with key reporters and editors at relevant media outlets. Identifying opportunities to connect those media contacts to partners of the firm
  • Researching, developing and write story angles to improve newsworthiness of routine firm developments (e.g., office openings, big wins, new partners)
  • Co-ordinating interviews and meetings with reporters and lawyers. Work with lawyers to prepare for media interviews. Advise lawyers and other Dechert personnel on press response techniques
  • Coordinating with lawyers and marketing colleagues to advise on and develop public relations activities that support practice group strategic business plans
  • Working closely with our external PR agencies to ensure activities meet firmwide objectives and pose no client conflicts or other sensitivities
  • Routinely meet and interact with members of the press to establish and maintain key working relationships
  • Complying with PR team admin processes for proper media tracking, activity reporting, conflict checking, etc

 

Candidates will come from a PR / Communications background with a minimum of 4 years’ experience in the legal sector either currently within legal media or for a law firm. Additional requirements include;

 

  • Educated to degree level with an emphasis on English, communications or public relations
  • Significant UK media contacts, preferably in the legal industry as well as national and trade media
  • Highly motivated and collaborative; willing to take initiative
  • Polite, professional, positive manner
  • Strong interpersonal skills. Ability to function in a collaborative organization and be a team player
  • European languages, preferably French speaking would be a bonus
