This city based litigation US law firm, offering a bespoke range of legal services to corporate international clients wish to hire a personable and flexible legal Finance Officer to join their busy and expanding London team. This newly created role will see the incumbent lead on all financial (non-billing) matters and needs someone who is confident in their SAR, AML and VAT knowledge.


Reporting into the Director of Administration in London whilst supporting the Revenue team, the Senior Finance Officer will handle all financial operational duties for the London office as well as working with their international offices. The client is recruiting the position on a permanent basis, salary is flexible, £55,000 – £65,000 with standard hours being 9:30am to 5:30pm.  Plus, this firm is operating a hybrid working pattern of 3 days in the office and 2 from home however applicants must be comfortable and able to work from the office when required and the offices are based in Liverpool Street.


The Senior Finance Officer duties include;


  • Regular review and management of internal procedures and controls and regulatory compliance
  • Assist in management of UK / international matter set up as well as queries relating to VAT status
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory legislation including VAT, Solicitor’s Accounts Rules and Anti-Money Laundering regulations
  • Client matter/budget reporting
  • Oversight of audit processes
  • Management of budgets
  • Submission of VAT returns
  • Inter-company invoicing
  • Monitoring of bank account transactions and account reconciliations
  • Credit card account management
  • Payroll management including P60, P11D and related reporting and submissions
  • Oversee purchase ledger / cashbook function and deal with related enquiries
  • Professional disbursement management
  • Expense claim management
  • Billing support during absences
  • Production of financial and statistical information for the Director of International Operations and Office Managing Partner
  • Any other related duties as assigned by the Director, International Operations or Billing Manager from time to time


The desired candidate will be degree educated and have a minimum of 5 years’ legal finance experience and currently operating in a Finance Officer role in a law firm which involves a heavy reliance on SAR compliance duties. You will be able to demonstrate a strong knowledge of Solicitor’s Accounts Rules, VAT and AML and able to translate these requirements when dealing directly with Partners when working with new and existing clients. Additionally, you will have;


  • Current working knowledge of Elite and/or Aderant
  • Proven ability to manage and prioritise own workload in order to meet deadlines
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills
  • Experience of Windows 10, Excel Spreadsheets and related technologies
  • Experience of international billing an advantage
